2nd Annual Outdoor Painting Festival Rules         

Artists agree, by their participation in the 2nd Annual Outdoor Painting Festival, to follow these Rules and conform to public and artistic mores during the Festival.

 Check In

  • All participating artists must check in
  • Location to Follow
  • All surfaces (supports) must be stamped before any work is commenced
  • Unstamped work will not be accepted for submission, exhibition, jurying and/or sale
  • An unlimited number may be stamped
  •  Due to space limitations, up to three pieces may be submitted for competition

 Art Materials

  •  Watercolour or Pastel on wood panel or stretched canvas*
  •  Acrylic or Oil Paint on wood panel or stretched canvas
  •  Flat panels must be submitted framed for jurying 
  •  Masonite or Canvas Board not accepted
  • All images must be original, not from a photograph, painted on site
  • No photographs or spray cans may be used


  • Maximum size 16 x 20  Limited gallery space.

Edged and Wired

  • Artworks must be professional in appearance. 
  • Edges painted, or taped, or framed
  • Wired.  Ready to Hang.

Where to Paint

  •  Please ask permission before painting on private property
  • Be safe, away from traffic
  • Do not obstruct pedestrians
  • List of Specific painting areas will be designated so that visitors may find you
  • Map to Painting Sites will be posted on this site one week prior to the Festival.
  • Clean up.   Get rid of trash properly.  Wipe up spills.

When to Paint      

  •  9:00 a.m. September 29 to 5:00 p.m. September 30
  • All works must be painted during the Festival
  • All art that may be submitted for jurying must be turned in

          at 5:00 p.m. September 29 and 30

  • Location will be announced closer to the date 
  • Pickup of art is available from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
  • This event will take place no matter the weather. 

Jurying for Awards   

  • Finished Artwork ready to hang must be delivered to TBA by 5 p.m. September 30 where it will be judged.    No exceptions.
  • Two professional artist/judges will be jurying the Artwork
  • Decisions by judges are final


Presentation of Awards

  • Awards Celebration Reception will be held at Galerie Q at 2:00 p.m.
  • Awards will be presented on October 1st, 2017 at the Ceremony

“Fresh Off The Easel Sale”

  • Must be original, not from a photograph and painted at the Festival
  •  Art will be hung each day as it is submitted for viewing at TBA* 
  •  Art may be viewed by the public at all times except during jurying.*
  • Award Winners’ Works will be exhibited at Galerie Q until October 29th 
  • If sold, Winning Works will be available to purchasers after the Exhibition on October 29th

Artwork Sales

  • Artists set prices
  • 20% of sales will go to supporting the Festival
  • 10% of sales will go to support a local Charity TBA
  • Festival organizers will administer and collect all monies from each sale of artwork

Timed Painting Competition - Quick Paint

1.  Contestants must be Registered.

2. October 1st the Quick Paint is from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 

3. Contestants will be painting in a specific location to be announced.

4. Must be set up and ready to paint at the sounding of the horn at 9:00 a.m.

5. Must stop painting at the sounding of the horn at 11:00 p.m.

6. Judging will take place at the easels. 

7. Awards will be presented at Reception which will start at 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.  October 1st, 2017.

8 .One painting will be presented with the Quick Paint Award at the Awards                Ceremony


  • By entering the 2nd Annual Outdoor Painting Competition in Cavan/Millbrook, any images of artwork entered into competition, as well as any images taken in the field of the artists working or at the Awards Ceremony, may be used by the Outdoor Painting Festival and its representatives for publicity purposes for future Festivals without prior approval.


  • The Outdoor Painting Festival reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not adhere to the rules of the competition or is deemed objectionable.  All decisions of the Festival representatives are final.


  • Participating artists understand and agree that Cavan Art Academy & Gallery, Galerie Q, nor any individual or entity associated with the 2nd Annual Outdoor Painting Festival can not be held responsible for any loss, theft, damage to any artwork or personal property that may occur in connection with this Event, nor for any injuries of any kind that may occur in connection with this Festival or its Events. 
  • The artist is responsible for insurance of his/her own artwork.
